What items should you have at home for a new Great Dane Puppy?
There are a few essential items that will make the transition easier for your new Great Dane puppy. We list them below:

-
Food: Your Great Dane's diet plays a significant role in their health, and we recommend keeping your Great Dane puppy on an adult formula of food. The protein has to be between 18-26%. Once you are home, we suggest 1 ¼ - 2 cups of food a day between two meals.
-
Treats for training: Great Dane's are people pleasers, and treats will make the training process easier.
-
Crate: A crate allows your puppy to have a space of their own where they feel sale. Crate training is also especially useful when house training. For an adult size crate, we use crates from 26-32 inches high.
-
Toys: Puppies need toys to engage and build relationships. De-stuffed toys are recommended. You can also use squeaker toys under supervision.
-
Bowls for food and water: You will need bowls for them to eat and drink. We suggest not using raised food dishes. They should eat lower, as they would in nature.
-
Pillows and blankets: Blankets and pillows can offer comfort and make it easier for them to adjust to their new home.
3 key things to know about Great Danes
They are great with children
Great Danes are known as gentle giants. If you have a larger family with kids, Great Danes will make for an ideal pet. Their temperament, personality, and love of people make them great companions for kids and adults. As they are social, it's important to train them early and provide supervision with smaller kids because Great Danes do not always realize their size.
They need training young
Like any other dog breed, Great Danes need the training to navigate the world. While Great Danes are people pleasers, they need the appropriate training to ensure they behave as they get older. With early training, you can have an easier time managing their behavior as they age. Great Danes are relatively intelligent dogs, and treats will make the process more enjoyable for both you and your puppy. Take the time to train them every day and provide incentives, such as attention and treats.
Prone to stomach problems
One of the main things you need to know is that Great Danes tend to have issues with their stomach, so it's important to be mindful of their diet. As Great Danes are prone to stomach issues, you need to ensure that you provide them with high-quality food. Generally, having your Great Dane eat smaller meals throughout the day will be beneficial. Also, it's vital for them not to exercise immediately after eating. By doing those things, you can minimize the potential risk of Bloat.
